Do not like Trampolines (Part 3)

This is now Part Three of getting to know moi

21. Favorite TV Show: That's a hard one. I am liking the Big Bang Theory right now. I also have 24 and Criminal Minds on DVD

22. Do you have posters on your wall? I have a Life 100.3 poster on the wall, as well as some really old school Switchfoot, Hawk Nelson and Seventh Day Slumber posters that I should take down

23. Have you ever jumped on a trampoline? Yes. I am famous for my lack of skills on the trampoline. I have stepped one someone's head, and then ankle and then broke the trampoline, and then after the day, I stopped using them

24. Favorite Magazine: I really like Nintendo Power, but when I get edition that is just full of DS games and features, it ends up in my recycling really fast

25. Time you go to bed? Sometimes I am in bed around 11:00pm, but that only happens when one of the 1's on my clock is blocked and I think it is 1:00am

26. How many pillows? I sleep with two. I know it's bad for your neck, but I cannot sleep without them

27. How good is your short-term memory? It's alright, it could be better. I probably need to play more Brain Age

28. How good is your short-term memory? HEY!!!.... It's not that bad...

29. Do you ever begin preferring IMs to other forms of conversation? Most of the time I like talking to people, except when you are looking for something to say or say something wrong. In MSN, you can backspace and stall... In real life, you cannot quite do it so well...

30. Ever have the falling dream? Yes.... and then I am like "Wait a sec... This is a dream" So then I realized I could fly and just flew away before I hit the ground.

Alright... another edition in the books... how many more do I have.... No idea... So I will keep to this until I am bored pretty much. Here's the video of the night

The Smell of Black Pens (Part 2)

This is part 2 of getting to know Junky

11. Favorite Food? I love most lasagnas and a big fan of pizza and tic tacs (do not mix them though)

12. Have a car? Yes, I have a 2007 Mazda 3 GS. She is my new baby, that I truly love

13. How old do you think you will be before you stop liking getting older? Will I be?? I hated getting older when I was 12. Things have not changed since then :P

14. What is your earliest memory? That's a hard question. I think I have forgotten it already. I did see a very old episode of The Steve Allen Show, so that will count for now

15. If someone you had no interest in dating expressed interest in dating you, how would you feel? A girl that likes me??? Probably something like... IT'S A MIRACLE!!! Praise the Lord!!!... I mean... uhh... I would be alright with that

16. Have people ever said you looked like a celebrity, and if so, who? My teacher said I looked like Tom Cruise once. She was over 50, so our conversations became much more awkward after that.

17. What do you love most about the other gender? Pretty much everything.

18. Would you name a child of yours after you? Nope. I would name them after Rey Mysterio Jr. So that would be... Rey Mysterio Jr. Jr?

19. Prefer black or blue pens? I actually like the blue pens the best, but depends on what I am doing. If I am writing for a short time, then blue, but if it is for a very long time, I love writing with a black pen. After using them for a long period of time, they give off this smell, and I just really like it.

20. Do you agree with the idea that sequels are always worse than the original? I am more in the video game bizness, then I am in the movie side. So almost ALWAYS, the second game is always better then the first.

Ok... so that is part two of getting to know me. I am not sure I how long I will keep doing it, but I love surveys and questions, so this could go on for a while

Until then, here is the video of the night... If you have played Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, you are going to love this...

New Guy in Town (Part 1)

Hey guys

Now that AJ the Wonderdog is on vacation for quite a while, I will be filling in on the Slam, so I thought what better way to start off a blog then with a series of getting to know Junky Rhodes. So without further waste, let's start

1. Do you like your name? Oh yeah, but what I like most is the looks that I get when I say I am Junky Rhodes. Those are priceless

2. Do you like video games? You have no idea. I just picked up Wii Fit so I am beginning to get myself into shape. I also picked up Okami and Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Nintendo Wii and Beyond Good & Evil for the computer. All highly recommended

3. What's going on tomorrow? Tomorrow, I have an interview with Red Cloud in the afternoon, then an interview with one of the organizers at RiverRush, and then I plan out what's going on 3SN and then I might do my nails

4. Do you pass on chain letters? Not really. I am actually just tempted to forward them back to people

5. Do you like your voice? Oh... No... It definitely needs to go down a notch... and then when it hits that notch, it needs to go down a little more

6. What are your pet peeves? Let's start with people who throw garbage out of their cars. Then we have those who say "Eh" a lot (you know who you are), and finally, people who recycle the same unfunny jokes over and over again. The only thing worse are those who tell unfunny jokes and say "Eh"

7. Do you have any pets? I have three cats, Zoe, Zao, and Monty (Zao is my little girl). I also have this little white thing called a... dog? Let's not talk about him to much. There is also a large tank of fish in the living room, but since I cannot play with them, I do not consider them pets

8. Have you ever cheated? Yes... In order to get everything in Smash Brothers I looked up the guide online (I am so ashamed)

9. Do you like coffee? No... but I do like bragging to people on how much I do not like it and how I have never drank a full cup

10. What do you want to be when you grow up? A Super Model

Ok... So that is part one... If you feel compelled to, come back again, and I will post another one, until then... This is my pick of video of the night. It is a fan made trailer for my favorite game, Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Man Crush

I have a man crush on Mat Kearney... I'll admit that to you. He holds down the top spot on my favorite artists list, and it doesn't look like he'll be dethroned. You may be thinking to yourself that the songs you've heard on Life aren't all that great, and you're kinda right. His best songs have never seen airplay on this radio station. But that's not why he's cemeted at #1 on my list. You've got to see him in concert to understand. You see, he freestyles. It's amazing! I saw him at the House of Blues in Cleveland and part-way through Undeniable he broke out into this freestyle about Cleveland. Rhyming about how the Browns suck, and LeBron is the man, and how the vibe in the room was chill, and somehow tied it all back to the gospel message. It was awesome! He does the freestyle in every city he plays in, name dropping landmarks, sports teams, famous people. And unlike most other freestylers, he's not a thug. He's just a chill guy from the west coast, with some mad skills. Nothing but love for Mat!

Check it out! (I wish this clip was longer) He's in Boston, and breaks out into this freestyle.

I managed to find another vid... this one is from Cornerstone.

Beauty Day

We were spoiled today. 20+ degree temps, tons of sun, and a sweet summer vibe runnin' through the city. I got up super early today to hit the ebach for another early morning skim sesh, and I'm glad I did. It was a toe numbing 4 degrees when I arrived at the beach, but by the time I was packing up to head for home it was a comfortable 16 degrees and I was sweatin' like a cat at a pitbull farm. It makes me wish summer would arrive a little faster. I crave the day when I can carve the beach without a wetsuit, and maybe even get a tan! Oh summer how I miss you. Please come soon. Or at least before June 6-8, warm weather would be nice for our weekend at Base Camp.

3 Years

1,096 days ago I made my debut on The Slam. Yeah 3 years ago! Hard to believe huh? It's the longest I have worked anywhere in my life. The past 3 years have been full of fun. Air Raids, ferris wheel hyjinx, mud volleyball, school's out parties and all around craziness. If I had to pick one hilite, I'm not sure what it would be. It will probably end up being the wakeboarding weekend, but since that hasn't happened yet I'll have to pick something else. I think I'd have to go with the School's Out Party. Just because I put it together all on my own (look Mommy, I'm a big kid now!). I hated it at the time, but it was nice to see the end product come together and go off without a hitch.
What would I still like to accomplish at Life 100.3? I'd like to interview Mat Kearney. I've been trying for 3 years and no luck. Although I think it might be hard to remain professional while interviewing my favorite musician. I'd like to expand the Slam staff to 7 or 8 people. Have people with various weekly duties. Like "Man On The Street" and "The Wire" just more of them. And ultimately, I'd like to go to Switchfoot's Annual Bro-Am. That would just about top the list. Still lots to accomplish, lots to do. I hope you continue to journey with me, cause it's all for you baby!

Opus Dei

If you've read "The DaVinci Code" the name Opus Dei might ring a bell. In the book they are the organization that is trying to keep this big secret under wraps in order to maintain status quo. They are made out to be the bad guy. Shortly after reading the book I forgot all about Opus Dei, until today. I sat down to eat dinner and was searching for something on tv to view while eating my bacon and portobello mushroom pizza (delicious!). I stumbled onto the History Channel and they were running a documentary on Opus Dei. I stopped to watch and see what they had to say. The whole thing was very confusing, but from what I gathered Opus Dei is an off-shoot from Catholicism, and the church is divided on which side they are on. Beyond that I didn't really soak in much else. I came in to work and wanted to ask Josh Miller (the resident Catholic) about Opus Dei, but he had already left for home. So if you could enlighten me please. Email me and give me a reader's digest version of the whole Opus Dei deal if you know what it's all about. Merci!

43 Things

About a year ago I was directed to a website called 43 Things. http://www.43things.com/person/AJtheWonderdog It seemed like an interesting idea, so I started to fill it out. Now as I look back, it's kind of depressing. All these things I would like to do, but probably never will. I feel like I might have missed out on life in some ways. Not that I'm too old to achieve it, but I think it gets harder as you grow older and start to accept more responsibility. "Carpe Diem" was preached at us all through High School, and I blew it off for the most part. I don't regret any of my past decisions, not at all. Without those decisions I wouldn't be in the place I am now, and I like my life.

I look at my best friend Mark, he's lived in Australia, California and will now be working as a musician on a cruise ship. SWEET! I look at him, and I'm kind of envious. Maybe it's something I need to work through. I'm content with my life as it is... I love my life. Sometimes I just fear that I'll become another one of those monkeys that spends 12 hours a day at work, constantly trying to make that next rung on the corporate ladder. That's not who I want to become. I see people in management positions, and I say to myself: "Don't ever let yourself become like them." They spend all their time at work, hardly see their family and spend their life in the office. Not what I want for my life.

Although the flipside is also something I don't want to become. The guy that's so happy with his life that he has no goals or dreams. He goes to work, collects his paycheck and misses out on a much richer life. I don't know which is worse, I just know I don't want to find myself at either extreme. This post is likely pretty random and not flowing like it should, but that's how my brain works.

Wedding Bliss

Saturday I attended my buddy Kent's wedding, and it goes down as one of my favs.  Some weddings seem to go on much too long.  Everyone gets up and gives a speech, and there's dinner, dessert, coffee, etc.  This one was perfect.  Some finger foods, only 3 speeches and a solid slideshow.  Well done Kent & Pam!  Well done!

Weddings

Tomorrow is the first of 4 weddings for Crystal and me this summer. Last year it was all Crystal's friends getting married, now it's my friends. Apparently next year is the year of the baby. I guess this is what happens as you age (gracefully). Weddings are fun though. My favorite part is always the slideshow with the embarassing photos. It's going to be a good summer.
