Star Wars

It just hit me today, that I grew up in a home where both of my parents were Star Trek and Star Wars fans. For some reason, I thought that was genetically impossibly, but somehow they are able to make it through life. Anyways, I found this amazing while searching through digg. Should hit home with all the Star Wars fans

Exicting weekend

Yikes, what an interesting weekend. It all started on Saturday night. We were doing two Fireproof premieres in Peterborough, and when it was all said and done, we left the church 10 before 12. So, I am thinking I should be back to my house around 2ish, and wish our amazing GPS guiding us, we should have no problems. That would be a negative. It decided we should go on the 115 home. So I think, It's a main highway, should be plowed and it's 4 lanes so I should just be able to speed home. That would also false. We kept getting stuck behind snow plows for the whole night and in the end got home at 3:30am.

Now, the good part was A.J. did the exact same thing, and he arrived home at 4:15a (I am not sure why this made me feel better). What really bites is that when we mapquest-ed it, we found out that taking the 115 adds an extra 40 miles to your trip, and if you are coming home from Peterborough, you should be probably get on Highway 48 instead

The fun does not start there. We had another Fireproof show in Flesherton. I get there really early, so I set up early and headed downstairs where I was invited to play Gaggle Ball (Wiki) .

Sounding interesting, decided to give it a shot. I was very average at it, and by average I mean brutally awful. I played soccer for years as a goalie, and the idea of avoiding the ball was foreign to me, so of course I take a ball to the face... which broke my glasses and made me temporarily blind. How awesome(sarcasm of course)

Finally, this is why you never give out your Facebook password to people. (An exeprt from my profile)

About me: I enjoy dancing, candlelit dinners for two, and long walks on the beach.

A Place For My Head

I'm starting to wish I had a place to write down all the stuff I think about and dwell on... I think it may be time for a moleskine.

Goals

I was over at the in-laws last night and as part of the evening, we shared our goals for 2009. I hadn't really given it much thought, so (aside from sell our condo and move into our house) I said I wanted to paddle from Centennial Beach to Big Bay Point. (15km) There's only one problem... I don't own a stand-up paddleboard. I could rent one for a couple days, but how do I train? I don't think I can just hop on the board and paddle 15km. So now the first step in achieving my goal is to find a way to train for the journey. Then I can try to tackle the lengthy paddle. Any ideas?

What about you? What would you like to accomplish before 2009 comes to an end?

Who knows, maybe I'll end up ripped like Laird?

How We Deal

It's -23 as I write this entry... MINUS TWENTY-THREE! It's not right. Winter totally bums me out. Today was the first time in weeks I remember seeing the sun. In fact, I lay on my bed soaking in the sweet warmth of sun rays. I closed my eyes and was wisked off to a tropical climate for about 15 minutes. But I digress... Winter is a part of living in Central Ontario. You find ways to deal with it. Some people snowmobile, some people ice-fish, some people curl up with a warm bevie and a good book. I got my season's pass to Snow Valley this week, that along with hockey helps me cope with the messy roads and sub-zero temps.

How do you deal?

Proud To Be Estonian

When I tell people I'm Estonian, they often think I've made it up. "Where's Estonia?" they ask. I try to explain that it's a small Baltic state in Northern Europe that had been occupied for foreign nations for most of the last century.

Although Estonia is a small country, with a population just over 1 million people, it is a leader in technology, quality of life and green energy. Although I was born in Canada, I feel a certain connection with Eestimaa. I've visited numerous times on missions trips and (despite visiting in winter) loved each and every trip. Standing on the cliffs at the former Russian Naval base at Suurupi, I found the stories my grandparents told me coming alive. Sneaking out under the cover of night to avoid Soviet detection, saying goodbye to family and friends, heading to refugee camps in Sweden. It all came to life for me. I found myself unable to stand as I thought about the sacrifices my ancestors made so that I could grow up without fear of being sent to gulags in Siberia. It was a truly moving experience.

Last year I had a similar experience. Except it didn't happen in Estonia, in fact it happened just 110km from where I live right now. A documentary was released about the Singing Revolution, and I attended a pre-screening at Ontario Place. Unbelieveable! The stories of heroism and courage in the face of the Soviet Empire was so inspiring. I hadn't thought about what happened to those that didn't make it to Sweden, the friends and family that my grandparents left behind.

So THAT is why I am proud to be Estonian. That is why I call myself an Estonian despite being born in Canada.

Stupidity Personified

Sunday night I was making some chicken nuggets, and halfway through their cooking time you need to take them out of the oven and flip them. Sounds simple enough right? Well it is. I successfully flipped the nuggets and picked up the tray to put it back in the oven. That's when it happened. I lost my oven-glove assisted grip on the tray and it started to fall. What did I do? I used my bare hand to try and catch the tray. I managed to save the nuggets, but now my fingers are burned and blistering as payment for their act of heroism. Sucks. I should have just let the nuggets fall and had pizza pops for dinner.

Share your stories of stupidity... Help me feel better about myself.

The Drive For Five

The World Juniors came to a frenzied end this evening. Canada vs Sweden, a rematch of last year's overtime thriller. Canada looking to win their 5th straight gold, Sweden trying to win for the first time since 1981.

Well it wasn't really close. I flipped over to the game early in the first period and Canada already had a 1-0 lead. The boys in red and white ended up routing the Swedish bombshells to the tune of 5-1.
Well done fellas!
